Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick on the team's mindset this week: "Great. No panic. No panic. Joe (Mixon) was out. A.J. (Green) didn't play in the second half. Preston (Brown) ain't out there. (Vontaze Burfict) is coming back after this week. I ain't panicking, we're 2-1. We let one slip this week. I ain't seen a team go undefeated since '72. I don't even think any of us were born. I love the feeling that everybody has right now, everybody's down and we expect more from each other. We expected to win that game, we felt like we could have won that game.I still feel like we were better than that team, but when you've got Pro Bowl caliber players out of the game that's tough. I commend the guys that stepped up in those guys' position and played their tails off and kept us in the game and kept us in position to win the game."

Bengals defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said the thing that separates the Falcons is how many ways they can come at a defense with their passing game. "They have backs that can catch, the tight ends can get open," he said. "Obviously they have Julio, and Ridley had a big game last week and they've got Sanu, so they've got guys all over the place, so they can dish that ball all around the field. So that's what makes them dangerous, so if you're double covering Julio, you've got to deal with Mohamed and now Ridley and the backs out of the backfield and those guys can actually run the ball as well. ... It will be a unique challenge and the quarterback obviously is as fine as you'll face all year."

Ryan Glasgow confirms that he tore his ACL. The Bengals lose depth on the defensive line and a player that was on the rise.

The main feeling in the Bengals' locker room following their loss to the Panthers was that they beat themselves, especially with turnovers. "It's nothing they really did," said wide receiver A.J. Green. "We moved the ball very well. You are going to have games like this. That is one thing about this team, we are not going to put our heads down. We knew if we did not have those turnovers, we would have been in the game."

Newton's 4 TDs lift Panthers over Bengals 31-21

Cam Newton threw for two touchdowns and ran for two others, Christian McCaffrey racked up a career-high 184 yards rushing and the Carolina Panthers handed the Cincinnati Bengals their first loss of the season 31-21 on Sunday.

Bengals (2-1) lose their first game on the road against the Panthers, 31-21. They couldn't stop RB Christian McCaffrey, lost top WR A.J. Green and didn't have much of a running game with a backup center and no Joe Mixon. Bengals had their chances but didn't get enough pressure upfront and couldn't capitalize offensively, throwing untimely picks and just getting nothing consistent going. They travel to face the Falcons next week.

AJ Green has been downgraded to questionable with a groin injury.

Bengals get out of the first half without anymore damage after they punt and pinned the ball at the Panthers' 1-yard line thanks to a great play by wide receiver Cody Core, who was active for the first time this season. Bengals trail 21-14 to end the half, but the concern is their defense, which isn't getting pressure up front and allowed three straight touchdowns by the Panthers. While the defense has come up with timely turnovers in two straight games, it looks like the offense is going to have to win the day.

The Bengals take an early 7-0 lead on the Panthers thanks to some great offensive play calling by Bill Lazor. He used several different personnel groupings and got creative, moving AJ Green in and out of the slot. Bengals RB Giovani Bernard is handling the lone lead back duties well so far, and ran in for a 1-yard touchdown.

Bengals LB Preston Brown is inactive today. He was questionable to play with an ankle injury that has now kept him out of two games. They also surprisingly made Thomas Rawls inactive, meaning they'll go with just two running backs. Also inactive: Michael Johnson (knee), Auden Tate, Cedric Ogubehi, Joe Mixon (knee) and Billy Price (foot). Cody Core is active for the first time this season.

Preston Brown and Michael Johnson are both questionable to play Sunday. Billy Price and Joe Mixon are out.

Giovani Bernard was a full participant in Thursday's practice, which is a good sign considering he's next man up with Joe Mixon out. Bobby Hart (illness) didn't practice. Preston Brown and Michael Johnson were limited. Thomas Rawls, Cody Core, Tyler Eifert and Tony McRae were full participants.

Bengals RB Joe Mixon (knee) and C Billy Price (foot) did not practice. Limited: LB Preston Brown (ankle), DE Michael Johnson (knee), RB Giovani Bernard (knee), CB Tony McRae (knee) and RB Thomas Rawls (cramps). Rawls was just signed today. Cody Core (back) and Tyler Eifert (back) were full participants.

Bengals RB Giovani Bernard appeared on the injury report this week with a knee injury. He was limited in Wednesday's practice. The fact that he practiced is a good sign, but it's not ideal to see him on the injury report considering the Bengals are already down two RBs with Joe Mixon out and Tra Carson waived today.
