The Bills' three-way competition at quarterback could quickly become a two-man race after AJ McCarron suffered a right shoulder injury in Friday's game. McCarron started and failed to gain a first down in four offensive possessions, taking one first-quarter sack behind a problematic offensive line. Coach Sean McDermott could have a looming decision to make between Josh Allen (18 of 32 for 176 yards and two touchdowns this preseason) and Nathan Peterman (17 of 20 for 231 yards, two touchdowns and one interception).

Bills QB Josh Allen responded Wednesday to critical comments made by Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey to GQ, saying, "That's the first I've heard of it. He's not on my team, he's not my teammate. It don't bother me."

Ramsey on QBs: Allen 'trash,' Ryan 'overrated'

Jalen Ramsey didn't hold back when asked his opinions of the NFL's quarterbacks, telling GQ magazine that Josh Allen is "trash" and Matt Ryan is "overrated."

The Bills continued their quarterback rotation to end training camp Wednesday as AJ McCarron led the first team, Josh Allen the second team and Nathan Peterman the third team. The practice saw a heavy amount of scout team work from both sides of the ball.

Bills coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that DE Trent Murphy will continue to miss practice time with a "nagging" groin injury. Murphy signed a three-year, $22.5 million deal with Buffalo in the offseason but was limited until training camp because of his recovery from a torn ACL. Murphy has since twice missed time with a groin injury, "We're trying to figure it out," McDermott said. 2016 first-round pick Shaq Lawson has taken first-team reps in Murphy's place.

After Corey Coleman did not play in the Bills' preseason opener after being acquired from the Browns, Bills coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday he will play Friday in Cleveland. "We're getting to the point now where it's, ‘Hey, here's the playbook, you got to know it.' Right now we're still digesting. ... There will be some clarity around what his role is Friday night. Biggest thing is we want him to come out and play fast and play physical."

Tuesday's episode of "Hard Knocks" showed former Browns receiver Corey Coleman confronting Hue Jackson in his office about playing time and then, with his voice cracking, asking to be traded. Bills coach Sean McDermott, asked Wednesday if he was aware of that exchange when the Bills traded a seventh-round pick in 2020 for Coleman, said, "Not just in this situation, we gather as much information as we can, and [GM] Brandon [Beane] and his staff do a really good job of that. In this case, I can't honestly — I don't tune into that, I'm focused on our team, quite honestly — but we're aware of a lot of things."

Bills coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday of Tyrod Taylor, who will face his former team Friday in Cleveland, "I can just tell you that I have a ton of respect for Tyrod. We certainly shared some moments last year together and he was instrumental in us making the playoffs. I got a ton of respect for his family, how hard the young man works and the great intangibles that he holds and possesses. I wish him nothing but the best for us — certainly we've moved forward, and I know he has as well — and I wish him nothing but the best."

Bills coach Sean McDermott declined to name a starting quarterback Wednesday for Friday's preseason game in Cleveland. Like the preseason opener, the Bills will likely wait until about an hour before kickoff to reveal their starter. McDermott said Wednesday all three quarterbacks have "had their moments" in camp, "good and bad."

The Bills continued to rotate their quarterbacks Tuesday, having Nathan Peterman run the first-team offense, rookie Josh Allen lead the second team and AJ McCarron run the third team. That continued throughout the entire practice without Allen taking any first-team reps, which has happened at points during training camp.
