Pirates-Tigers 28th postponement this season

Tuesday's steady rain in Pittsburgh led to the postponement of a game between the Pirates and Tigers for the third time this season. It was the 28th game overall postponed by weather, the most through April since records were kept starting in 1986.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon had a pointed response to Thursday's response from Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, who was in turn responding to Javier Baez's bat-flip on a flyout during Wednesday's game at Wrigley Field. Got that?

Cubs' Baez fires back at Hurdle over 'trash talk'

Baez homers twice as Cubs pound Pirates 13-5

Javier Baez homered twice for the second straight day and scored the go-ahead run on a daring dash around the bases, helping the Chicago Cubs pound the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-5 on Wednesday.

Both the good and the bad of the Javier Baez show was on full blast as the Cubs grab the lead against Pittsburgh. Baez reached base by swinging at strike three on a Tyler Glasnow pitch that bounced in front of home plate. He went to second on a grounder, stole third and scored by beating a throw from Pirates 1B Josh Bell on a roller with the infield in. That guy is fun to watch.

After beating the Cubs 8-5 on Tuesday in Chicago's home opener, the Pirates are now 8-2 and sit alone atop the NL Central. But Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle is quick to offer some perspective.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

New name, same player: Pirates closer Felipe Rivero has changed his name to Felipe Vazquez, so that's the same closer wrapping up Pittsburgh's 8-5 win over the Cubs to spoil Chicago's home opener. Vazquez had a hiccup in his first outing of 2018, but has seven K's in 4.1 innings since then with four saves. He should be one of the game's best closers all season.
