The Shohei Ohtani Experience: Keep track of the Angels phenom's two-way quest

Good news, bad news on Ohtani (1:02)

Rick Sutcliffe notes that while Shohei Ohtani is healing the DH spot is occupied by Albert Pujols. Sutcliffe remains skeptical of a 2-way player. (1:02)

As a starting pitcher and a designated hitter, Los Angeles Angels rookie Shohei Ohtani is embarking on a two-way journey that no major leaguer has successfully pulled off since Babe Ruth himself. Will Ohtani dominate on the mound and crush at the plate?

When can I see Ohtani next?

At the plate -- The Angels host the White Sox on Monday, with Lucas Giolito expected to start for Chicago.

On the mound -- When general manager Billy Eppler announced Ohtani had been cleared to hit, he said Ohtani had an MRI that noted improvement in his ulnar collateral ligament and said he expected to continue to see progress, but the GM declined to address whether Ohtani would pitch again this season. That changed on July 19, when the Angels announced that Ohtani has been cleared to resume throwing after having stem cells and platelet rich plasma injected into his elbow in June. Though there is no set timetable, he may return to the mound in September.

What did Ohtani do last?

At the plate -- He went 1-for-4 with a walk as a DH Sunday, scoring two runs to help lead the Angels past the Astros, 14-5.

On the mound -- Ohtani's start against the Royals on June 6 was cut short after four innings because of a blister on his pitching hand. He hasn't returned to the mound since due to his UCL situation.
